The second reading: ‘Ye Friends to truth and Statesman whos survey, The rich Man’s joy, The poor man’s decay’ within a scrolling leaf border on white enamel ground, pink base and monogrammed mark to interior lid.

The case modelled with porcelain painted military emblems, figures and trophies, the conforming enamel dial with raised Roman chapters, pierced gilt-metal hands, the eight day twin barrels movement with count wheel strike on bell.

The moulded top above a centred tablet of putti and a sheep flanked by a pair of female facial masks, above ribbons and flowers, the pair of doors inserted with a pair of Sèvres style oval porcelain panels painted with figures in a classical ruins landscape, the bowed sides with three mirror backed shelves applied with pierced swag galleries, raised on a plinth base.
